Krumm Exteriors FAQs
General FAQs
How do I locate a reputable, professional roofer near my area?
You can ask for referrals from family, friends, and neighbors before creating a shortlist of contractors. Compare their services and prices. Ensure the contractor is willing to communicate and discuss everything about your project before making a final decision.
How Do Your Prices Compare To Others?
We certainly are not the most expensive, but we are also not the cheapest either. We’ve always believed that “too good to be true” prices are just that – too good to be true. It means the contractor is taking a shortcut somewhere: poor materials, unskilled workers, not standing behind the work. Something has to give if you are being offered ultra-cheap prices.
At the same time, Krumm Exteriors is not one of those huge home improvement companies with tons of overhead from a large office staff. This is how we keep our prices affordable, but still deliver top quality.
Are Your Quotes Firm Or Just A Rough Estimate?
Do You Have References?
Yes. In fact, we are happy to provide references and let you talk directly to our past customers. We feel it is one of the best ways to truly know what it is like to work with Krumm Exteriors. Just contact us and we will happily provide you with references.
Do You Accept Credit Cards?
Yes, we accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover.
Do You offer financing?
How Can I Learn More About Krumm Exteriors?
Read the Krumm Exteriors Contractors Standards Guide. We pack this guide full of specifics and objective standards you can use to judge any contractor. And we also provide proof in the guide that we meet our own high standards.
What Can I Expect From Your Salespeople?
When people ask this question, what they usually mean is: “Am I going to have a salesperson camped out on my couch using every sales trick in the book until I agree to the project?” The answer with us is Absolutely NOT. In our opinion, high pressure sales, bait and switch tactics and all the rest of it has no place in the home improvement industry. We know some still do this, but we would rather educate you on your choices, give you a firm quote, and then step back and let you decide.
What does your company do?
Is hiring a roofing contractor worth it?
We highly recommend hiring a professional roofer to ensure the work is done correctly and safely and meets local building codes. A reputable roofing contractor can also provide valuable advice on the best materials and techniques for your specific situation.
Window FAQs
What kind of windows do you recommend?
I’ve seen windows advertised for under $200. Are your prices that good?
No, and chances are you won’t get that price when you sit down and talk with whoever advertised that price. A lot of times this is the classic “bait and switch” – they know installing a window of that poor quality is not practical, so they immediately try to sell you on an upgrade. If they do sell you that window, it will cost you so much in higher energy bills. That is no bargain at all.
We never play those games. We offer superior quality windows at a reasonable price. We install it perfectly and give you an outstanding warranty in writing. No gimmicks. Just honest work at a fair price.
There are so many window companies out there, so many prices, so many options. How can I know what window I should get?
What styles of windows are available?
Here are the main window styles:
- Double hung
- Slider
- Casement
- Awning
- Bow
- Bay
- Patio Doors
If you have a special situation or custom idea, please contact us for a free consultation.
Are your windows energy efficient?
Yes. We only install energy efficient windows. Technology advances over the past decade means windows now are much more energy efficient than even 10 years ago. This is a great reason to replace your windows: some nice savings on your energy bill that really add up over time.
Will my windows be maintenance-free?
You will never have to paint the exterior of any windows we install. They need to be cleaned occasionally, and that is the extent of the maintenance.
Do your windows come with a warranty?
Yes, of course. They will all vary somewhat depending on your choices and which manufacturer you ultimately select. Whatever your choice, Krumm Exteriors will only install windows with real warranties backed by proven companies.
Siding FAQs
What Kind Of Warranty Will Come With My Siding?
What Are The Benefits Of Vinyl Siding Versus Seamless Steel Siding?
Seamless steel siding looks better and tends to be more durable. This is why it is our first recommendation in most cases. But it does cost more than vinyl siding.
And it is not that vinyl is a bad choice – not at all. It is a great value: it looks good, is durable and is energy efficient (if you select a foam-backed option). Call us for a free siding consultation, and we can answer your specific questions.
Who Will Install My Siding?
An experienced crew – no ifs, ands, or buts. We have a designated supervisor that assures quality work on site. The onsite supervisor will shut work down and have his crew immediately correct anything that does not meet his exacting standards. Our team is known for getting the details right – they insist on perfect installation even in areas where most people never see (which is where most contractors will cut corners). Also, Krumm Exteriors does not use workers from temporary day labor pools.
Does Siding Make A Home More Energy Efficient?
It can. It very much depends on the choices you make. For instance, if you choose vinyl siding, a foam-backed option is the superior choice for energy efficiency. Steel siding is also an excellent choice for energy efficiency.
During a free siding consultation, we can educate you with the specifics for the siding you are considering. A good rule of thumb is to ask about the R-Value of any siding you are considering. The higher the R-Value, the more energy efficient the siding is.
Is Your Siding Really “Maintenance Free”?
The siding choices we offer are virtually maintenance free. What does that mean? If it gets a little dirty, just take out the hose and rinse it down. No painting. No complicated cleaning techniques.
Roofing FAQs
Does Your Roof Come With A Warranty?
Yes, of course. In fact, we carefully select our products only from the best and most reliable manufacturers. We like manufacturers with decades and decades of proven quality, a record of standing behind their products, and excellent warranties.
We are happy to give you all the warranty details during the consultation. Warranties will vary in length depending on the specific roofing products you select.
What’s the best roofing material to use?
Asphalt shingles are popular due to their affordability, durability, and ability to withstand extreme weather conditions. Metal roofing is also a good option for those looking for a longer-lasting and energy-efficient solution. It’s best to consult with a professional roofing contractor in Wisconsin and Minnesota to determine the best roofing material for your specific needs and location.
What Materials Do You Use For Your Roof?
The two main options we have are metal roofing and asphalt roofing.
Of the two, metal is a better choice but is also more expensive. Asphalt roofing is a very solid choice at a reasonable price.
Understand that no matter what type of roof you choose, we are extremely careful to only use high quality, proven materials on your roof.
Who Will Be Working On My Roof?
We can tell you who will NOT be working on your roof: temporary day laborers that we picked up in a home improvement store parking lot that morning. Our crews are experienced and everyone is fully trained and capable in their role.
Our onsite supervisors personally supervise each job – and is almost always at the job site every single day. If they find ANYTHING below their exacting standards, they call a stop to the job and make them correct it immediately.
Do You Do Roof Repairs?
Yes. In fact, that is why calling us for a roof consultation is a good idea. Some companies will try and sell you a roof replacement when a roof repair is the more appropriate choice. We recommend what we think is best for your roof – nothing more, nothing less – and then let you decide.
Sometimes a roof is repairable but is on the verge of needing replaced. In that case, we will quote you both options and let you decide what is best for your circumstances.
Can I Just Get A Quote Without A Long Sales Presentation?
Usually what is behind this question is a fear that a salesperson will camp out on your couch trying to pressure you into signing a contract. We are not like that at all. In fact, we hate high pressure sales tactics, too. We educate, give you a firm quote, and then step back and let you decide.
To make sure our quote is accurate, we do need to take some time to carefully inspect your roof. We promise to make the overall process simple and pressure free.
How long does a good roof last?
A good roof can last anywhere from 20 to 50 years depending on the type of roofing material used, the quality of the installation, and how well it is maintained.
When is it time to replace my roof?
How can adding a roof increase my house’s value?
A new roof can improve your property’s curb appeal and protect it from weather damage. A well-maintained roof also assures potential buyers that the home is well taken care of, making it a more attractive and valuable investment.
When should I get a roof inspection?
Roof inspections should be done at least once a year, or after severe weather conditions like hail or heavy storms. It’s also recommended to get a roof inspection before buying or selling a property or if you notice any signs of damage like leaks, missing shingles, or cracked tiles.
What do you do in a roofing inspection?
We usually check for leaks, damage to the roof structure, shingles or tiles, flashing, gutters, and chimneys. We also inspect for signs of wear and tear and determine the roof’s overall condition. The inspection report includes a list of repairs, replacements, and maintenance required.
How much is a metal roof?
Metal roofing for a 1,700-square-foot roof costs $13,200 on average, with over two-thirds of the cost going towards materials. The materials range from $1 to $25 per square foot and labor from $2 to $14 per square foot.
Can I have a metal roof installed over roof shingles?
Yes. Metal roofing is lightweight, making it ideal to install over existing shingle roofs. However, it’s best to consult with a professional roofer first before proceeding.
What about standing seam metal roofs?
Standing seam metal roofing features vertical panels with seams connecting them. It differs from traditional roofing as it creates a snug, solid cover that can move with thermal expansion. This style of roof is known for its durability, low maintenance, and sleek appearance.
